In this role, you will:
- Design and build backend services and APIs that power Dune's core product.
- Contribute to system design - writing design docs, defining schemas, and making architecture decisions within your team.
- Own features end-to-end: from breaking down requirements, through implementation, to monitoring in production.
- Set up observability - metrics, alerts, and dashboards - so your services run reliably at scale.
- Participate in incident response and write post-mortems when things go wrong.
- Collaborate with product and design to translate user needs into well-scoped technical solutions.
- Engage in continuous learning and collaborate with more senior engineers to enhance your skills and contribute effectively to the team.
You might be a great fit for this role if you:
- Have 4+ years of backend engineering experience building production services.
- Have strong TypeScript/Node.js skills - this is our primary backend language.
- Are comfortable with cloud infrastructure - AWS, Kubernetes, and containerized deployments.
- Write code that others can understand - well tested, documented, and maintainable.
- Think in systems - you consider failure modes, edge cases, and operational burden when designing solutions.
- Can write a design doc, explain a tradeoff, and keep your team informed on progress.
- Take ambiguous feature requirements, ask the right clarifying questions, and break them into deliverable chunks.
- Enjoy going fast!
Big plus if you have:
- Go experience - we use Go for our performance-critical data infrastructure.
- Frontend skills (React/Next.js) - our product teams ship end-to-end, so being able to pick up frontend work when needed makes you more effective.
