Monarch Money
Monarch is a personal finance platform for budgeting, tracking balances, and growing investments in one place. Co-founded in 2018 by Val Agostino, the first product manager on Mint, the company has been fully remote since well before the pandemic.
Monarch Money's Remote Policy
Their careers page states the working model in four lines: "Fully remote. Async-first. First Friday off every month. Flexible time off."
The fuller language lives in Monarch's job postings, where identical boilerplate appears on every open role: "Work wherever you want! As a fully remote company with no central office, we want you to work wherever you are happiest and most productive. Whether that's out of your home, a co-working space, or elsewhere." The same postings describe the collaboration expectation: "Our team collaborates synchronously mostly from 9 AM - 2 PM PT and embraces asynchronous work to stay connected across time zones."

Why Monarch Money
The San Francisco headquarters on Monarch's records is an address, not a place anyone commutes to. More of the team sits in Minnesota than in San Francisco itself, and there is no central office anywhere. That structure got a real test when Intuit announced it was retiring Mint: subscribers grew roughly 20x in the year that followed, and Monarch has since passed a million members without opening a hub to absorb any of it.
AI is not a side initiative here. The company says it is core to how they operate, with every person on the team expected to use it as a working partner, and the staff roster backs that up with a Head of AI Engineering and AI platform engineers. The week is built around protected time: no-meeting days are part of the calendar, and the whole company takes the first Friday of every month off, twelve three-day weekends a year. The tradeoffs are the ones that come with growing this fast: process has not caught up with headcount, and after-hours pings still test the boundaries async norms are supposed to protect.
