Remote work didn't happen to software — software built remote work. The companies on this list include fully-remote pioneers like GitLab, Grafana Labs, Docker, Supabase, and Linear — employers that operate without offices by design, not as a perk. They also happen to be hiring.

We analyzed 1,856 active software jobs and pulled the 25 that meet our standards: genuinely remote roles, verified remote culture, and active postings at companies our team has manually reviewed. No hybrid-disguised-as-remote. No "remote within commuting distance." No stale listings.

Every employer below carries a Remote Culture Code. Fully Remote means no office, period. Remote-First means remote by default with optional hubs. Jobs from onsite or hybrid companies only appear here when the specific listing is unambiguously remote — because "remote-friendly" often isn't.

How We Ranked These Jobs

Every job in this list passed three checks:

1. Genuinely remote. We filter on location_type = 'remote' — the posting must explicitly say remote, not "hybrid" or "remote-eligible from select metros." A classification model reads each description and flags the mismatches.

2. Verified employer. The company must be manually reviewed by our team. We check the About page, the careers page, and public signals (BuiltWith, LinkedIn) to confirm the remote work model. Every company carries a Remote Culture Code — Fully Remote, Remote-First, Flexible Hybrid, or Structured Hybrid — and we only surface jobs from companies in the first two categories, or explicit remote listings from hybrid companies.

3. Software vertical. We tag companies by tech vertical. This list includes remote jobs from companies tagged as SaaS Platform or DevTools — the two verticals that best capture "software companies" in our taxonomy.

Ranking blends how strong the hiring company is (REMOTE Score, certification, profile completeness), how complete and transparent the job posting itself is, and how recently it was posted.

Frequently Asked Questions

What counts as a "software" company on Remotivated?

A software company builds software products or developer tools as its primary business. In our taxonomy, that maps to the SaaS Platform and DevTools verticals: companies building developer tools, observability platforms, backend services, project management software, databases, and anything else where the product itself is software.

Are these all engineering jobs?

No. Software companies hire across every function — engineering, product, design, marketing, sales, customer success, HR, finance, legal. This list includes jobs from every department, because a great remote software company is remote in every seat, not just engineering.

How do you verify a job is actually remote?

Two layers. First, we only index jobs where the posting's location field or description explicitly says remote. Second, we check the employer's Remote Culture Code — if a company is classified as onsite or hybrid, we only include its jobs that explicitly say remote. Hybrid roles do not make this list.

Why does this list only feature a small group of companies?

By design. Our directory only includes manually-reviewed employers. We research each one before adding it, so the signal-to-noise ratio is high. We would rather give you a smaller set of companies you can trust than a larger one you have to re-vet yourself.

Do you include international jobs?

Yes. Many fully-remote software companies hire globally. Individual listings may have hiring zone restrictions, so check each job detail page for specifics.
