Linear is the product development system that software teams use to plan, track, and ship their work, now built for both people and AI agents. Teams at OpenAI, Coinbase, and Ramp run on it for its speed, focus, and design. It has been fully remote since 2019, when building that way was a deliberate choice rather than a reaction.

Linear has been a fully remote company since it was founded in 2019. From their careers page: "When we began back in 2019, building remote-first was a design choice. We believed builders deserve freedom: freedom of place, freedom of rhythm, freedom of deep focus." In 2025 the company added optional co-working hubs in San Francisco, New York, Berlin, and London. As they describe them: "These are places for anyone who wants to work alongside teammates in person. There is no expectation to show up."

Why Linear

The way Linear operates is unusual even among remote companies. Teams set their own rhythms and keep meetings to a minimum; the only standing company-wide meeting is a one-hour all-hands once a month. In place of status meetings, weekly written updates auto-post to Slack so anyone can follow progress on their own time.
