Mixmax
Mixmax is an AI sales platform built for Gmail. Its Inbox, Meeting, and Engagement copilots read a rep's email, calendar, meetings, and CRM, then tell them what to do next and execute it on the spot. Gong, Canva, and Brex are customers.

Why Mixmax
Mixmax has not always been distributed. Until 2020 it was a hybrid company, part of the team colocated at an office in San Francisco and part spread out, and it has run 100% distributed since. In 2022 it made that a stated company goal: become a top 10 distributed team. The consequence shows up in how work actually moves. Because people work with almost no time zone overlap, the company says it cannot rely on meetings to transfer knowledge or make decisions, so asynchronous communication is the preferred way of working: documentation and knowledge transfer in Notion, messaging in Slack, and meetings kept to a minimum in both frequency and duration so people hold big blocks of focus time. Small teams decide how and what to work on themselves.
The written-first habit has names attached to it. The Oracle indexes all team-generated documentation with its metadata and status. The Highway, a backlog of tech debt and ideas built on Getting Things Done, gets reprioritized with RICE in a technical session every eight weeks. Engineers build against dev-sync, a remote cloud development environment driven by a custom mixmax CLI. The engineering team has written up its own rituals: a coworking session every other week, a half-hour Demo Time every Friday where attendance is optional but wearing a funny hat is not, and an anonymous culture survey with the Head of People every six months, one round of which came back with a 100% response rate. Four company values frame the rest: create superfans, is it awesome?, win together, and why not now? The second one comes with its own arithmetic: get 1% better every day, because 1.01^365 = 38.
