AI-Assisted Screening Notice (Pilot Program)

1Password is currently piloting an artificial intelligence (“AI”) powered interview tool for this role. If you are selected to move forward in the hiring process, you may be invited to complete an AI-facilitated interview as an initial screening step.

This tool may record, transcribe, summarize, and analyze your interview responses to assist our recruiting team in evaluating candidate qualifications. All interview outputs are reviewed by a human recruiter, and no hiring decision will be made solely on the basis of an automated decision.

Information collected through this process will be handled in accordance with our Candidate Privacy Notice. At 1Password, AI isn't just something we build around, it's something we actively embrace and think critically about. We believe that meaningfully engaging with AI in its current forms helps us build better solutions for our customers and creates the foundation for what comes next. This pilot is a reflection of that same approach applied to how we hire: we're exploring AI thoughtfully, learning from it, and using it in ways we believe add real value.

The Open Source team is currently looking for a Developer Intern, Open Source to join the team for the Fall 2026 semester. This team strengthens 1Password's open source posture and makes our developer tools easy to use right inside developers' workflows. We maintain and improve our public repositories, engage with our external contributor community, and build agentic IDE integrations such as our Agent Hooks and IDE plugins. Our work sits at the intersection of developer experience, open source community, and security, and almost all of it ships in public.

This is a remote opportunity within Canada or the US. This position will be for 4 months - September to December 2026.

What You Can Expect

• Contribute real code to our public repositories by working on well-defined, clearly scoped issues that ship in the open with support from experienced teammates.
• Help build and improve our agentic IDE integrations, including Agent Hooks and IDE plugins that let developers use 1Password directly where they write code.
• Help keep our open source posture healthy by pitching in on repository cleanup, documentation, testing, and community-facing improvements.
• Write clean, well-tested code and clear documentation, and report issues effectively so others can build on your work.
• Be a full member of the team: join standups, planning, retros, and code reviews, give and receive feedback, and follow along with team RFCs/RFDs.

• Humility: You're not afraid to ask "stupid" questions and make mistakes (as long as you learn from them).
• Curiosity: You look for better ways of doing things, even if everyone seems happy with how they are.
• Teamwork: We work together, and succeed as a team!

Bonus points for

• Any exposure to open source, whether contributing to a project, filing issues, or even just maintaining your own public repo.
• Familiarity with Git and a modern code editor/IDE (e.g., VS Code, Cursor).
• Interest in AI-enabled or agentic IDEs and the emerging agent-hook ecosystem.
• Experience with at least one relevant programming language used in developer tooling.

• Interest in developer tooling, SDKs/CLIs, or building things that other developers build on top of.

Our approach to remote work 
We believe in the power of remote work, but recognize that in-person connection is important to help us achieve our mission. While we are a remote-first company, travel for in-person engagement is a part of most roles. Frequency will depend on role and responsibilities, and may include, but is not limited to: annual department-wide offsites, team meetings, and customer/industry events. 

How we’re using AI today

Our Engineering, Product, and Design teams are thoughtfully integrating AI across the full software and product development lifecycle to move faster without sacrificing quality or security. In practice, that looks like engineers using AI-assisted coding tools to accelerate reviews and catch bugs earlier, product managers synthesizing user research at scale, and designers rapidly prototyping and iterating with AI-generated mockups. We approach AI the same way we approach security: with clear principles, human accountability at every consequential decision point, and rigorous evaluation before anything ships to customers.
