The big picture: Axios is a modern media company dedicated to providing trustworthy, award-winning news content in an audience-first format. We are hiring a Politics Enterprise Editor to help set the agenda for Axios’ political coverage and deliver distinctive, high-impact journalism.
Why it matters: The most important stories aren’t always the most obvious. We're looking for a creative, ambitious editor who can spot the trends others are missing, connect the dots across beats and help turn smart ideas into must-read coverage.
Go deeper: In this role, you’ll make an impact through the following responsibilities:
Worthy of your time: Ideal candidates will embody an entrepreneurial spirit and passion for Axios’ mission and have the following skills:
Important: Starting salary for this role is in the range of $150,000 - $200,000 and is dependent on numerous factors, including but not limited to location, work experience, and skills. This range does not include other compensation and benefits. Axios' compensation philosophy takes into account cost of labor differentials across the country. Because this is a remote-optional job posting, this salary range takes into account all possible locations within the United States, but candidates will only be eligible for the salary range for their location.
Axios is committed to embracing artificial intelligence as a core part of how we work. All team members are expected to actively develop AI literacy and use AI tools to enhance their productivity, creativity, and efficiency. We invest in ongoing learning to ensure every employee is equipped to responsibly and effectively integrate AI into their daily workflows.
Axios is an equal opportunity employer that is committed to diversity and inclusion in the workplace. We prohibit discrimination and harassment of any kind based on race, color, sex, religion, sexual orientation, age, gender identity, gender expression, veteran status, national origin, disability, genetic information, pregnancy, or any other protected characteristic as outlined by federal, state, or local laws.
This policy applies to all employment practices within our organization, including hiring, recruiting, promotion, termination, layoff, recall, leave of absence, compensation, benefits, training, and apprenticeship. Axios makes hiring decisions based solely on qualifications, merit, and business needs at the time.

No. Axios is Remote-First, and most of its roles are posted as remote within the United States, but some are tied to a specific metro. Local advertising sales is the clearest case: those postings say in-market presence is essential because the role is built on local relationships. The only physical office Axios names on its job board is its headquarters in Arlington, Virginia.
Rarely. Axios hires almost entirely within the United States: its postings scope pay ranges to locations within the U.S., and remote roles are listed as U.S.-based. The exceptions are occasional reporting roles tied to covering a specific region abroad. Within the country, some roles narrow further to a region, such as the East Coast, or to a particular local market.
Pay is location-based by stated policy. Axios says its "compensation philosophy takes into account the cost of labor differentials across the country," so the range on a posting is one national envelope and the portion you are eligible for depends on where in the United States you live. Expect wide posted ranges for that reason.
Axios's job postings list a 401(k) with employer match, PPO and high-deductible health plans with an employer HSA contribution, dental and vision coverage, 12 weeks of paid primary caregiver leave, one mental health day per quarter, an annual learning and development stipend, and a $100 monthly work-from-home stipend. There is also the Axios Family Fund, which employees can request financial support from when facing hardship or emergencies.
Axios publishes three employee values: "Axios first: Put colleagues and the cause above yourself. Humility wins," "Excellence always: Hunger to be the very best at what you do," and "Candor: Be candid, respectful and maintain a high degree of integrity." Candor also appears in the company's own value set, defined there as remaining "direct and candid in respectful but unambiguous ways with the audience and each other."
