(Snr) People Generalist — Freelance
3-4 days per week during 6 months | Paris (on-site several days per week) | French/English
About the Role
Photoroom is looking for a (senior) People Generalist freelancer to help us scale our HR foundations. You'll work directly with the VP People and the broader people team to audit our current setup, close process and documentation gaps, lead key projects (including a tool consolidation), and help bring operational maturity to a function that's been moving fast. You'll also bring an outside perspective that helps us benchmark ourselves against where we should be. We need someone who can come in, hit the ground running, and show what good looks like in practice and be hands-on. Not a consultant who hands over a deck - rather someone who rolls up their sleeves, does the work, builds the thing, and leaves the team better than they found it.
What you'll be working on
The scope is intentionally broad:
- Day-to-day support on people activities. You will be an operational member of the team, not just a project resource. That could mean fielding HR questions, supporting on admin tasks, and being a reliable pair of hands across whatever needs it.
- People tech stack. We use several tools that don't talk to each other well. You will audit what we have, help us decide what stays, what goes, and what replaces it, and drive the consolidation and the migration operationally. Ideally you have done this before and come with a point of view.
- Compensation ranges. We are revisiting our comp philosophy and rebuilding our bands. You will work with us on the methodology, the benchmarking, and the rollout.
- L&D. We want to build something meaningful, not a training catalogue. You will help us structure and operationalise it.
- Processes and guidelines. A lot of what we do lives in usage or in multiple Notion pages. You will document it properly, fill the gaps, and make sure it scales.
- Compliance across multiple countries. We operate in France, the US, and with across Europe. You will work on the review, identify what needs to be tightened, and own the follow-up actions.
- Employee relations and employment law. You will support on ER cases, with solid grounding in labour law as the baseline especially in France.
- AI and automation. You will identify where AI and/or automation can take work off the team's plate, run the experiments, and co-implement it.
Important: This list is not exhaustive and priorities will evolve.
What we are looking for
Non-negotiables:
- 7 or more years in People roles
- End-to-end project management experience on HR topics
- Has worked across companies of + 100 employees scaling, in a multi-country setup
- Has been through an HRIS selection and/or migration, hands-on
- French labour law knowledge. This is not a nice to have.
- Comfortable working in English (team and written output is in English). French fluency is important too.
- Structured, organised, data-oriented.
- Hands-on and focused on delivery and great quality output.
A plus if:
- Has done comp and leveling work hands-on
- Has structured HR documentation and processes from scratch
- Has opinions on tooling and process. You should be able to walk in and say "here is what I would do and why," not just ask what we want.
- AI interest and capability.
Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging
We're committed to enabling everyone to feel included and valued at work. We believe our company and culture are strongest when composed of diverse experiences and backgrounds.
That's also why we have flexible working hours, trust people to work remotely, and extended parental leave.
