The Role
As a Lead Software Engineer on Bitwarden’s Provider/Business Unit Portals team, you will lead the design and development of both the Provider and Business Unit Portals. The former is built to service managed service providers (MSPs) and resellers who administer Bitwarden organizations on behalf of separate, external customers. The latter is is built for a single company's own administrators to manage multiple Enterprise organizations that all belong to that same company (e.g., different business units, subsidiaries, or departments). Both portals give administrators a single, centralized experience for creating and managing multiple Bitwarden Enterprise organizations at scale.
This Lead Software Engineer role is hands-on and does not carry any expectations for people management. You'll stay close to the code while driving architecture, technical direction, and complex, high-impact engineering problems. As our India Product Engineering organization grows, you'll help shape its engineering practices and also navigate opportunities to mentor and elevate other engineers through technical leadership.
We are committed to fostering an inclusive workplace where everyone can do their best work. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and make employment decisions based on skills, experience, qualifications, and business needs.
If you enjoy being hands-on, solving hard engineering problems, and having a genuine influence on how products are built, we'd love to hear from you.

Yes. Bitwarden is a fully distributed, all-remote company. Team members work from home across many US states and more than 14 countries, with no in-office requirement.
Roles are region-scoped rather than open worldwide. Bitwarden posts positions for the US, the United Kingdom, and the broader EMEA region. US roles have no time-zone preference but do not include visa sponsorship, so you need to already be authorized to work in the role's region.
Benefits include a company-provided computer plus up to $500 in home office reimbursement, 401(k) contributions, 20 days of flexible time off with 11 flexible holidays (an extra week of vacation kicks in after four years), and $500 a year for skill development. In the US, medical, dental, and vision premiums are covered; internationally, benefits are calculated into pay.
For US roles, yes. Bitwarden discloses a base salary range on individual job postings, noting actual pay varies by level, experience, and location. Compensation outside the US is not published on postings because it differs by market.
People who value working in the open. Because the codebase is open source and development is community-driven, Bitwarden suits engineers and other roles comfortable with public scrutiny, security-first thinking, and self-directed work on a distributed team that spans time zones.
