Staff Cloud Infrastructure Engineer

Assured is on a mission to modernize insurance. Claims processing (i.e. should we pay this claim?), while often overlooked, is the foundation of the entire industry. It’s currently highly manual, involving phone calls, faxes, and gut instinct, costing tens of billions of dollars a year. We can do better.

At Assured, we provide large insurers with the software solutions they need to win in a modern, technology-driven world. From self-service claim-filing software to backend fraud detection, we’re the engine that powers claims processing for some of the largest insurers in the world.

The challenges we face are deep and diverse, from creating digital experiences that provide comfort and clarity to claimants at their most stressed and vulnerable to orchestrating large-scale ML-driven decision-making on billions of dollars of claims payments, life at Assured is dynamic, collaborative, and rewarding.

At Assured, we’re building technology that makes insurance infrastructure more efficient, secure, and scalable. We’re looking for a Staff Cloud Infrastructure Engineer who’s passionate about automation, reliability, and empowering developers through world-class platform engineering.

If you thrive in a dynamic startup environment and want to shape the future of large-scale cloud infrastructure, this role is for you.

What You’ll Do

🏗️ Design and scale the core infrastructure that powers the Assured platform, supporting both the growth of existing systems and the launch of entirely new product lines.

⚙️ Automate everything using Terraform and Terragrunt, building reliable, repeatable environments that make infrastructure effortless to manage.

☁️ Advance our AWS foundations, including EKS, SQS, Aurora, and S3, with a focus on performance, scalability, and long-term sustainability.

🤝 Collaborate closely with engineering and product teams to improve reliability, performance, and observability across every layer of the stack.

🔒 Embed security by design by implementing best practices, strengthening our defenses, and continuously evolving how we protect data and systems.

🧰 Build tools and systems that streamline developer workflows, reduce friction, and accelerate product delivery across the organization.

🧭 Lead and mentor by guiding architectural decisions, sharing knowledge generously, and raising the technical bar for the entire team.

You’ll Excel Here If You

🛠️ Build end-to-end infrastructure, from first principles to production, and know how to scale systems thoughtfully as they grow.

🤖 Automate with purpose, creating tools and workflows that reduce toil while keeping things simple when simplicity wins.

🔎 Stay proactive by identifying and solving infrastructure challenges before they impact reliability or performance.

📚 Share what you know, whether through documentation, reviews, or mentorship that helps teammates level up.

🧭 Thrive in ambiguity by staying resourceful, adaptable, and collaborative even when priorities shift or paths aren’t yet defined.

💾 Design for resilience with experience building and maintaining highly available databases, especially Aurora PostgreSQL.

☁️ Go deep on cloud, bringing strong hands-on expertise in AWS, Terraform, and Kubernetes within fast-moving, distributed environments.

💪 Value reliability and care deeply about building systems that are sustainable, secure, and built to last.

🧠 Engineer with intention, combining strong technical fundamentals with curiosity and a mindset of continuous improvement.
