Browsers are unique in that they are one of the only pieces of software that you share with your parents as well as your kids. Which makes sense, they're our doorway to the most important things — through them we socialize with loved ones, work on our passion projects, and explore our curiosities. But on their own, they don’t actually do a whole lot, they’re kind of just there. They don’t help us organize our messy lives or make it easier to compose our ideas. We believe that the browser could do so much more — it can empower and support the amazing things we do on the internet. That’s why we’re building one: a browser that can help us grow, create, and stay curious.
To accomplish this lofty task, we’re building a diverse team of people from different backgrounds and experiences. This isn’t optional, it’s crucial to our mission, as we need a wide range of perspectives to challenge our assumptions and shape our browser through a bold, creative lens. Building software is changing. With modern AI coding tools and automated reviewers, the bottlenecks in shipping products are shifting from “how fast can you type” to “how have you designed the system that writes, reviews, and ships the code.” At The Browser Company, how we build is as important, and ultimately as defensible, as what we build.
We’re well into rebuilding how we build. We’ve been investing deeply in an AI-native development stack: a managed environment for planning, code understanding, code generation, code-review that turns our way of working into compounding leverage for every engineer and team. The industry is starting to move in this direction – building the software factory that builds the product rather than building the product directly – and in many ways we’re ahead of the pack.
We already have fantastic mechanisms in production: we run agents overnight to do large projects for us, fix crashes, and do our Chromium upgrades. Agent write almost all of our code, debug issues, and handle most of our code-review. The work now is to treat this as a product, improving the ergonomics, flows, latency, and cost of these systems as we iterate on our internal software factory and build into the future.
As a Staff Software Engineer, Developer Experience at The Browser Company, you won’t just maintain tools or CI pipelines. You’ll help build and maintain our software factory, and shape the future of how we build Dia.
Set the technical direction and raise the engineering bar for how we build, influencing peers across teams through your work rather than through a reporting line.
Compute infrastructure: Scaling our bespoke macOS, Windows, and Linux compute so agents and humans can verify, prototype, and experiment. Expanding job scheduling and leasing primitives to unlock new ways of building and validating Dia.
The Browser Company is an ambitious team of close to 100 people (and growing!) who are passionate about building great products. Remote roles are listed as Remote - North America. Most recent postings say the company can hire in the US or Canada, while one product role says it can hire in any country where Atlassian has a legal entity. Remote postings also ask for at least 4 hours of overlap with teammates in the Eastern Time Zone, so check the location line on each role.
Most roles are remote, but not all. A recent Personal and Executive Assistant posting required being NYC based and working at least 3 days per week from the Brooklyn office. For anyone who comes in, the careers page notes that lunch is on the company when you are in the office.
Yes. The careers page says base salary ranges are shared openly with every job posting, and postings describe total compensation for full-time employees as base salary, equity and benefits.
The careers page says team members take an average of 15 to 20 days off per year, plus federal holidays based on location and an end-of-year cooldown week. That figure describes what people take on average, not a fixed allowance.
Beyond the optional office, the company hosts quarterly team gatherings as well as company-wide retreats, according to its careers page.
In its acquisition announcement the company said it will operate independently with Dia as its focus and that its full team remains intact. It still hires for full-time roles through its own job board. For benefits, the careers page and job postings link to Atlassian's perks and benefits directory, but the company has not published how or when those plans apply to its own employees.
