aiEDU (The AI Education Project) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit devoted to making sure all students are ready to live, work, and thrive in a world where AI is everywhere. It creates learning experiences that build AI literacy in classrooms, with the aim of making equitable AI education accessible to learners everywhere.

From aiEDU's careers page: "We are a fully distributed company with team members working remotely across the United States. aiEDU’s Core Working Hours are Monday-Friday, 9am-2pm Pacific. Outside of Core Working Hours, staff are generally free to set their own schedules."

Health Insurance

aiEDU pays all premiums for comprehensive health coverage for employees and their families.

Dental coverage is included in the benefits package, with all premiums paid for employees and their families.

aiEDU matches employee retirement contributions up to four percent, and matched money belongs to the employee immediately with no vesting period.

Bereavement leave is offered as its own policy, separate from flexible paid time off.

Unlimited PTO

Employees take paid time off at their own discretion, and aiEDU encourages staff to use 20 days a year on top of holiday closures.

aiEDU observes 15 organization holidays a year, separate from its flexible paid time off policy.

Flexible Schedule

Core working hours run Monday to Friday, 9am to 2pm Pacific, and staff set their own schedules outside that window.

Why aiEDU

aiEDU began in 2019 with a single meeting: a 20,000-student school district in one of the communities most vulnerable to AI and automation, where the team learned that students had no exposure whatsoever to AI education. Closing that gap is still the work. The organization is staffed by educators and AI subject matter experts, with programs led regionally across the East Coast, West Coast, and Midwest, and a dedicated Director, People function.

The culture runs on nine values written as verbs: "Our values are actionable, so we use verbs we can live by." Two of them say the most about the day to day. Write it down asks staff to document processes, decisions, progress, and courses of action, and to communicate why a decision was made rather than only what was chosen, on the reasoning that "Clear writing is clear thinking; muddy writing is muddy thinking." Ask who's missing is its counterweight: the same page asks the team to "Gather contributions from a diverse group of backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences" and to remember that "Available doesn’t mean accessible." The team also meets face to face on a quarterly basis at rotating locations for team and company retreats.
