The AI Education Project (aiEDU) is a growing 501(c)(3) non-profit that creates equitable educational experiences to excite and empower learners everywhere with AI literacy. We educate students—especially those disproportionately impacted by artificial intelligence and automation—with the conceptual knowledge and skills they need to thrive as future workers, creators, consumers, and citizens. Join us to make a difference in education and help shape a brighter future for today's and tomorrow's learners.
We are looking for an experienced engineer to build the technical foundation for aiEDU's external-facing products.
Our programming is generally live and cohort-based, but we've begun prototyping web-based products to support the tens of thousands of educators and partners in our programs each year. Our goal is to build quickly using current AI-assisted development tools and processes, without compromising quality or security.
Working with our product managers, Senior Lead of Data and Impact, and VP of Operations, you'll define the quality standards our products must meet, develop our shared technical infrastructure, own the security and integrity of our systems and data, and serve as first responder when problems arise.
You'll also make the rest of the team more technically capable — advising on engineering and security best practices, setting practical guardrails that let colleagues keep experimenting responsibly, and strengthening the technical judgment of the people around you.
Before reading, please remember that there is no such thing as a "perfect" candidate. If you are on the fence about applying because you are unsure whether you are qualified, we would strongly encourage you to apply. Share your relevant experiences in a thoughtful cover letter!

aiEDU is Fully Remote and hires in the United States only. Its job postings state that roles can be done remotely from anywhere in the U.S. with access to high speed internet, and postings note that in compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States. One current posting adds a preference for someone who can work PST hours.
Some do, and the amount is stated in the posting. One current role lists up to 15% travel within the United States as possible, and another states that up to 40% travel within the U.S. will be required. Candidates should check the specific posting rather than assume the role is travel-free.
Yes. All three of aiEDU's currently open roles publish a base compensation range in the role-details section of the posting, described as a baseline range depending on experience. Published ranges for those roles run from $105,000 at the low end to $175,000 at the top. The careers page itself does not state a broader compensation philosophy.
Three are unusually strong. aiEDU offers Traditional and Roth 401(k) plans and matches contributions up to four percent, with the money yours immediately and no vesting period required. It offers up to 16 weeks of paid parental leave, plus bereavement leave and unpaid leave options. And its health, dental, and vision coverage pays all premiums for the employee and their family. Paid time off is taken at employee discretion, with staff encouraged to take 20 days a year on top of holiday office closures.
All regular full-time employees receive a company-provided laptop and headphones on hire and are eligible for reimbursement of other home office equipment and remote work expenses each calendar year. Full-time employees are also eligible for annual reimbursement for professional growth and development opportunities, with management support in finding them and time allocated to complete them.
The team describes itself as builders with backgrounds in technology, education, curriculum design, policy, journalism and more, united by a belief in the next generation's potential to shape technology. The careers page tells applicants there is no such thing as a perfect candidate and strongly encourages people to apply even if they are unsure they meet every listed qualification, noting the organization is most interested in the best candidate for the job, who may come from a less traditional background.
