Searchチームは、Query Understanding（クエリ理解）、POIの検索候補抽出（Recall）とランキング、さらに検索結果全体のランキングや関連性を含む、Mapboxの検索エンジン「Search Box」の開発を担っています。Search Data、Search Evaluation、Search APIをはじめとする各チームと緊密に連携し、チームの垣根を越えたコラボレーションとオープンなコミュニケーションを通じて、常にお客様に最適なソリューションを提供することを目指しています。
私たちは、アルゴリズムを分析し、実装と検証を繰り返しながら、継続的にソリューションを改善・最適化していくモダンな開発プロセスを採用しています。また、本番環境で稼働するシステムを運用しているため、定期的なオンコール対応、ビデオ会議、その他プロジェクト上の必要に応じて、通常の勤務時間外に対応をお願いする場合があります。

POI Search & Relevance team is responsible for building the best general, location-based search engine that empowers the drivers in vehicles, couriers in package delivery and many other people with different use cases that require an intelligent Maps search solution to find places and points of interest as quickly and with fewer keystrokes as possible. We do this by developing groundbreaking algorithms and features, applying the latest cutting edge technologies, and creating cost efficient, scalable solutions that can keep up with the ever changing dynamics of the world in near real-time fashion.
If you are interested in Search, high throughput/low latency architecture, big data analytics and science, machine learning, deep learning and any of the cutting edge technologies that can elevate quality and relevance of our solutions to a higher level, this may be a role for you.
The Search team has direct ownership of Mapbox’s search engine (Search Box) including Query Understanding, POI recall and ranking, and overall ranking and whole page relevancy. We work very closely with our partners, Search Data, Search Evaluation and Search API teams among others, to ensure that we provide the best solution for our customers at all times through cross-team collaboration and open communication.
We have a modern development process - analyzing our initial algorithms, implementing and experimenting as we go, adjusting and optimizing our solutions to ultimately provide the best user experience. We support a production system and, therefore, support outside of standard business hours may occasionally be required to assist with various team and system needs such as pager support for periodic on-call duties, video calls, or other project requirements.

Mapbox runs a multi-stage process: a resume review, a 30-minute recruiter screen, an optional hiring manager screen, and, for some roles, a take-home or live-coding assessment. The final stage is a set of virtual interviews, usually four rounds of 45 to 90 minutes over Google Meet, covering technical skills and behavioral questions mapped to Mapbox's company values. Mapbox aims to respond within 14 business days of your application and encourages the STAR method for behavioral answers.
Open roles are listed across the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Finland, Germany, Poland, Belarus, Japan, South Korea, China, and Singapore. Mapbox keeps six physical offices, in San Francisco, Washington DC, Tokyo, Minsk, Helsinki, and London, and most engineering roles are posted as remote within the country of hire.
Mapbox does not display salary bands on its job board by default. Compensation ranges appear in the body of a posting only where local law requires it, such as in certain US states and in Poland. Outside those jurisdictions, compensation is discussed later in the hiring process rather than published upfront.
Mapbox recruits what it calls builders, innovators, and map nerds, and assesses candidates against eleven published values, including Bias for Action, Ownership, Disagree and Commit, and Drive the Highest Standards. The interview guidance stresses honesty about mistakes, data-driven reasoning, and speaking to your individual contribution rather than your team's. Candidates drawn to geospatial problems, navigation, and real-time data at scale tend to fit well.
Engineering is organized around Mapbox's product lines: navigation SDKs for mobile and automotive, routing and directions, search and geocoding, HD and SD map building through the RAVE teams, a data platform, and traffic and telemetry systems. Open roles span Android, iOS, full-stack, data engineering, and machine learning, with heavy concentration in automotive and EV navigation.
