The Driver Operations team conducts weekly in-vehicle testing to support cross-functional development and validation efforts. Each week, we build a prioritized test plan based on incoming requests, delivery timelines, and business needs. We execute against this plan with tight coordination and clear, real-time communication to ensure test objectives are met and actionable feedback is delivered efficiently. We are constantly behind the wheel, executing test cycles, supporting special R&D activations, and representing the team in high-visibility initiatives for both internal and external stakeholders.
Our geographic footprint continues to grow through a combination of in-house testers and partnerships with professional service providers. We currently maintain direct test coverage in the U.S, Germany, Japan, and the Philippines.
Success in this role requires a strong foundation in automotive test coordination, with the ability to troubleshoot both hardware and software systems and a solid understanding of vehicle electronics, navigation, and mapping technologies. We're looking for someone genuinely excited about in-vehicle testing, energized by real-world environments, and eager to test complex systems on the road. You should be comfortable working hands-on, whether behind the wheel or alongside drivers, and skilled at connecting field execution with internal teams to surface issues, ensure alignment, and drive continuous improvement. Experience in advanced development environments within OEMs is a plus, as are sharp observational skills and a passion for delivering quality.

Our hourly compensation for this role ranges from $50 - $60 per hour. Job level and actual compensation will be decided based on factors including, but not limited to, individual qualifications objectively assessed during the interview process (including skills and prior relevant experience, potential impact, and scope of role), market demands, and specific work location. Mapbox runs a multi-stage process: a resume review, a 30-minute recruiter screen, an optional hiring manager screen, and, for some roles, a take-home or live-coding assessment. The final stage is a set of virtual interviews, usually four rounds of 45 to 90 minutes over Google Meet, covering technical skills and behavioral questions mapped to Mapbox's company values. Mapbox aims to respond within 14 business days of your application and encourages the STAR method for behavioral answers.

Mapbox does not display salary bands on its job board by default. Compensation ranges appear in the body of a posting only where local law requires it, such as in certain US states and in Poland. Outside those jurisdictions, compensation is discussed later in the hiring process rather than published upfront.
Mapbox recruits what it calls builders, innovators, and map nerds, and assesses candidates against eleven published values, including Bias for Action, Ownership, Disagree and Commit, and Drive the Highest Standards. The interview guidance stresses honesty about mistakes, data-driven reasoning, and speaking to your individual contribution rather than your team's. Candidates drawn to geospatial problems, navigation, and real-time data at scale tend to fit well.
Engineering is organized around Mapbox's product lines: navigation SDKs for mobile and automotive, routing and directions, search and geocoding, HD and SD map building through the RAVE teams, a data platform, and traffic and telemetry systems.
