Brave Software

Brave was founded in 2015 by Brendan Eich, the creator of JavaScript and a co-founder of Mozilla, alongside Brian Bondy, who came from Khan Academy and Mozilla. The company's bet is that privacy should be the default, not a setting you have to find: it built one of only three Web search indexes running at scale in the West, and the only one offered commercially through an independent Search API. That independence is the whole point, since Brave's search results don't sit on top of Google or Bing underneath.

The team is fully distributed with no central office. Brave keeps meetings to a minimum and describes its own structure as "truly flat," with teammates it calls welcoming, humble, and ridiculously smart. The work spans desktop and mobile browsers, an independent search engine, and a blockchain-based advertising platform, so engineers tend to own problems end to end rather than sit inside a narrow lane.
