The big picture: Axios is a media company dedicated to delivering trustworthy, award-winning news in an audience-first format. We are building a new category of local revenue generation and are hiring Local Market Builders to help scale Axios Local across key markets.
This is not a traditional Account Executive role. This is a foundational, in-market revenue leader responsible for building Axios’ local advertising business from the ground up.
Why it matters: The Local Market Builder is the face of Axios in their city or region—responsible for developing deep relationships with local business leaders and converting those relationships into long-term advertising partnerships.
This role is critical to unlocking hyperlocal revenue and proving a scalable model for Axios Local expansion.
Go deeper: Local Market Builders are highly entrepreneurial sellers focused on building a book of business through their existing network and local market presence. In this role, you will:
Yes, but: This is not a traditional AE role with inbound leads or established accounts.

No. Axios is Remote-First: most current openings are posted as fully remote, but a minority are anchored to a named metro, mostly local advertising sales and some events work. The local advertising ads state outright that in-market presence is essential. Arlington, Virginia is the only physical office Axios names on its own job board, and one evergreen talent-pool posting for the events team is listed as hybrid in Washington DC.
No. Every open requisition carries an internal location value of "USA," and there is no visa or sponsorship language anywhere on the job board. Inside the country there are no state-level exclusions, though individual roles sometimes carry a regional tag such as East Coast, and Axios publishes no company-wide timezone overlap requirement.
Pay is location-based by stated policy: the company says its "compensation philosophy takes into account the cost of labor differentials across the country," so a posted range is a national envelope and the slice you are eligible for depends on where you live. Two practical consequences. Bands are wide, with published examples such as $100,000 to $150,000 and $75,000 to $125,000. And Axios posts a range even in states with no pay disclosure law, including Texas and Florida listings, so nearly every opening arrives with a number attached.
The benefits block on nearly every posting lists a 401(k) with employer match (the match percentage is not published), PPO and high-deductible health plans with an employer HSA contribution, dental and vision, 12 weeks of paid primary caregiver leave, one mental health day per quarter, an annual learning and development stipend, and a $100 monthly work-from-home stipend, the only dollar figure in that list. There is also the Axios Family Fund, which employees can draw on for financial support during hardship or emergencies. Equity is not part of the package: no live posting lists stock or options.
Editorial dominates the board by volume, especially Axios Local reporters and editors, plus subscription verticals under Axios Pro and beat roles such as defense. The revenue side hires client partnerships, client success, and growth marketing, including city-based local advertising sellers. There is also a product and technology group covering software engineering, analytics engineering, and engineering management, along with Axios Live events staffing and finance roles.
Axios publishes three employee values: "Axios first: Put colleagues and the cause above yourself. Humility wins," "Excellence always: Hunger to be the very best at what you do," and "Candor: Be candid, respectful and maintain a high degree of integrity." Candor is stated under the same name in the company value set too, defined there as remaining "direct and candid in respectful but unambiguous ways," so direct feedback should be expected as a norm rather than a surprise.
