Senior Software Developer - Simulation
At CoLab, we help mechanical engineering teams bring life-changing products to market years sooner.
CoLab is the AI platform for driving stronger engineering decisions. Every design review in CoLab builds a knowledge repository of design feedback, decisions, and lessons learned - which AI agents draw from to flag issues on future designs before they compound. The more your team works in CoLab, the smarter it gets and the faster you arrive at the ideal design. Companies like Ford, Komatsu, and Johnson Controls use CoLab to catch issues earlier, eliminate rework cycles, and bring products to market faster.
Founded in St. John's, Newfoundland, CoLab has grown quickly from our first customer in 2019 to a rapidly scaling company. We've recently been recognized on Deloitte's Fast 50™ and Fast 500™, and named a Canadian company to watch by The Globe and Mail and Financial Post.
Modern engineering teams invest a significant amount of time and money on simulation. Before anything gets built, teams need confidence that a design is going to work: structurally, thermally, aerodynamically, etc. Simulation is one of the main ways they build that confidence.
But the way teams share and review simulation results to make decisions is still pretty broken. Engineers are exporting videos, taking screenshots, dropping them into PowerPoint, and then trying to make decisions through email threads, meetings, or disconnected slide decks. The actual decision-making ends up separated from the underlying simulation data, which means context gets lost, feedback is hard to trace, and important engineering knowledge disappears into the workflow.
CoLab already helps engineering teams review CAD, capture feedback, and make better design decisions in one connected workspace. Now we’re extending that same idea into simulation. The goal is simple: make simulation results collaborative, reviewable, and traceable in the same way CoLab does for CAD today.
We’re starting a new product team focused on bringing simulation review into CoLab. As one of the first engineers on that team, you’ll help define how simulation data gets ingested, visualized, discussed, and connected back to real engineering decisions. There are a lot of interesting technical problems here: large datasets, high-performance visualization, viewer interactions, data pipelines, and user experiences that need to work for mechanical engineers doing critical product development work.
The first phase is about learning the product, the customers, and the review workflows we already support today. You’ll spend time embedded with our Engineering Reviews team, learning how engineers collaborate in CoLab, where the current product is strong, and where simulation creates a new set of problems we need to solve. From there, you’ll help build the foundation for a new Simulation team - not just technically, but from a product perspective as well. We want to build something customers actually need and will use in their day-to-day work, and that requires a highly product oriented approach.
You're the kind of developer who wants to understand why a feature matters before deciding how to build it.
You enjoy owning complex technical problems, but you also enjoy talking with product managers, designers, and customers to understand what success actually looks like. You make thoughtful technical decisions independently and know when to bring others into the conversation.
Experience working with simulation software is a significant advantage. Maybe you've worked with FEA, CFD, multiphysics simulations, scientific visualization, or engineering data platforms. You understand the kinds of problems engineers are trying to solve.
This is a good fit for someone who likes ambiguity, wants to work closely with our product and leadership teams, and cares about the connection between technical decisions and customer value. You’ll have a meaningful role in shaping both the architecture and the user experience for a new capability that we think can become a major part of engineering review in CoLab.
Frequently cited statistics show that people who identify with historically marginalized groups are likely to apply to jobs only if they meet 100% of the qualifications. We encourage you to help us break that statistic and apply even if you don't meet every single qualification - your potential is what matters most to us.

Most of CoLab's open roles are remote-tagged for Canada, with several also open to the United States and broader North America. CoLab also lists two Europe-remote roles (Industry Strategy Manager and Key Account Executive) and one hybrid role based in St. John's, NL or Toronto, ON.
CoLab's careers page highlights health and dental coverage with the employer paying up to 100% of premiums, RRSP and 401(k) matching, stock options, unlimited PTO, a mental health benefit up to $1,000 per year, a home office stipend up to $1,000, and parental, maternity, or adoption top-up to 80% for 15 weeks.
CoLab has raised $117.6M in total funding, including a $72M Series C in November 2025, giving it a stable base for continued hiring and growth.
CoLab is hiring across engineering (Mechanical Engineer, Forward Deployed Engineer, Senior Back End Developer, Senior Full Stack Developer), sales (Key Account Executive, Director of Sales, Major Account Director), customer success (Strategic CSM, Senior Implementation Specialist), and marketing (Senior Director Growth Marketing, Senior Product Marketing Manager).
CoLab runs a CoLaborator of the Week program, announced by the CEO at the company-wide weekly meeting with a gift card, alongside quarterly performance reviews and a referral bonus of $750 to $9,000.
