Tremendous

150 employees
Fully Remote

Tremendous is a payouts platform that lets businesses send money, prepaid cards, and gift cards to recipients anywhere, who choose how they get paid. Researchers at Google and MIT, marketers at Casper and Lyft, and public institutions like the Federal Reserve Bank use it. It has been founder- and employee-owned since buying out its original investors in 2013.

Tremendous's Remote Policy

Tremendous is fully remote, which in its own handbook means there is no Tremendous office or headquarters: most team members work from home and a few work from co-working spaces. The handbook states the company has no physical offices and does not plan to open one, because a hybrid environment would create an imbalance for those not present in person. It also sets baseline collaboration hours of 12 to 3 PM Eastern, when team members are expected to be generally available for cross-team coordination, while noting that people work their own local hours around that window and that management, sales, and product support roles carry higher availability expectations. Equity / RSUs

Every full-time employee receives equity in Tremendous, and all 21 open roles advertise an equity component alongside base pay. The company is profitable and owned by its founders and employees, with no outside investors.

Pay Transparency

All 21 open roles publish a salary band, with on-target earnings broken out separately for sales roles. Tremendous documents a localized pay approach benchmarked against Pave and Radford data, and reviews comp levels every January and July without employees having to ask for a raise.

Time Off

3

Unlimited PTO

Time off is unlimited and untracked, and the handbook states employees are expected to take it, suggesting roughly 15 days a year plus standard holidays as a rule of thumb.

Paid Holidays

Holidays are default-off at Tremendous, so employees take them without asking a manager. Employees outside the US choose between their local holiday calendar and the US calendar.

Flexible Schedule

Employees set their own hours around a single baseline collaboration window of 12-3pm ET, when everyone is expected to be generally available. Management, sales, and product support roles carry higher availability expectations.

Why Tremendous

Most of what Tremendous handles runs in the background of other company programs: market research incentives, customer promotions, wellness rewards, and bulk global payouts. How the team behind it works is not a mystery, because the employee handbook is public and linked from every job posting.

That handbook is blunt. Communication is public by default: the stated rule is to assume a new channel or document should be open, then find a specific reason to make it private, and working documents stay visible while they are still in progress. Meetings are not the default unit of work, though the handbook is careful to add that this is not a no-meeting culture either. Quick ad-hoc calls are encouraged; what gets scrutinized hard is big recurring meetings with lots of people. Slack is treated as a newsfeed where messages get buried within a few hours, so anything that needs to last goes into Notion or an Asana ticket. The three principles the company names are autonomy, intentionality, and rationality.
